It is a city and district headquarter of Bageshwar district in the state of Uttarakhand, India. Bageshwar is known for its scenic beauty, Glaciers, Rivers and Temples. Historically and religiously it is a very important city of Kumaun region. Situated on the confluence of Sarju and Gomati rivers and surrounded by the mountains of Bhileshwar (east) and Nileshwar (west) and by the Suraj Kund (north) and Agni Kund (south), the city spread over a total area of approx 5.50 sq km. The city got its name from the famous Bagnath Temple which was built in 1450 and is dedicated to lord Shiva.
